Welcome to How To Be The Best Version Of Yourself – PART 2.

This forms Part 2 of How to Become the Best Version of You.

You can read Part 2 first, but it’s probably better to click back and read Part 1 by clicking here.

So, we ended last week’s blog post with this famous quote:

“The Journey of a thousand miles begins with one small step.” – Lao Tzu

And I think it’s a good way to start this week’s blog, by focussing on the meaning of this quote.

Personal development can be overwhelming, so it’s good to bear in mind when you embark on a self development journey, that you take things slowly and to start at the beginning.

One-foot step at a time.

With that in mind, here is How To Be The Best Version Of Yourself – PART 2 and we start with tip number 11:

  1. Cool, Calm and Collected

How To Be The Best Version Of Yourself

Who would you choose to give your business too? Someone who flaps, rushes and is late OR someone who is cool, calm and collected?

I know which one I would choose…..

Remember if we act how we want to feel, the emotion is sure to follow and this applies doubly to feeling calm. Even if you’re not feeling calm, if you try to conduct yourself in a calm manner then the emotion will probably follow. It takes practise, but if you set an intention to be calm every day and plan how you’re going to act in those stressful situations then you will become calmer.

  1. Choose Your Battles

Grief with Dr Marina Lambrou

If you let it, life can be one battle after the other. It’s soooooooooo easy to find fault in people and yet the energy and stress that accompanies an argument will far outweigh the benefits of getting into one. In the heat of the moment it can be tricky to choose your battles, but you will be wise too.

Save up your energy for the battles that really matter and try to relax a bit.

  1. Surround Yourself with Good People

How talking stops worry

As Jim Rohn (Tony Robbin’s mentor) famously said “You are the average of the Five People You Surround Yourself With”, with his point being that those closest to us will affect self-esteem, decisions and how we strive through life.

Therefore, make sure you surround yourself with good ones.

I’ve written and spoken extensively about Toxic Friends and I can’t stress enough how important it is to stop spending time with the people who are the toxic ones and to spend time with those who make your life better for knowing them.

So, spend this coming year weeding out the bad and planting the good.

  1. Get Up Early

In my blog post “Two Steps To Transform Your Life” I explain in detail why getting up earlier is a life changer. In fact, all the successful people I know get up early; some of them really early at 4 am. Why? Because it’s an opportunity, particularly if you have children, to have quality time to yourself and it gives you such an incredible sense of achievement before the day has already begun.

It’s probably one of my all-time favourite self-improvement tips if I’m honest.

Think about what you can achieve if you have an additional hour or two hours into your day? You can exercise, you can write that book, you can meditate…….

Admittedly painful at first, but try it for a month and trust me you will be glad that you did.

  1. Embrace That Your Problems Are Your Teacher

I absolutely love this one and constantly remind myself of its lesson when life gets tough for me. I can categorically say that 100% of my “big problems” in my life have become a blessing later on. Every single one of them I’m glad for. At the time some of them seem catastrophic, but always always always at a later date I think “thank the lord such and such happened”.

So, I invite you to do the same in 2019, whenever faced with a problem that seems insurmountable, try to relax and accept it for what it is and know that it’s happening for a reason and that one day you will be look back and see it as a blessing.

  1. Reduce the Stress

Eliminate wherever that stress is coming from.

We don’t need scientific research to confirm that stress is the root cause of many diseases; I think it’s fairly obvious, even if not scientifically confirmed yet.

Sit down and identify all of those stressors in your life and ensure you make 2019 the year that you remove as many of them as possible.

  1. Be Kind

When faced with a dilemma in life ask yourself the question “what’s the kind thing to do?” and it will lead you in the right direction. Ok, so you may not get any recognition for being kind, but it will make you a better human being and as sure as night follows day, at some point in your life it will reward you. Probably when least expected.

  1. Carpe Diem

Adopt the philosophy of Carpe Diem or seize the day.

Taken from book 1 of the Roman poet Horace’s work Odes, the phrase is part of a longer one which actually translates to “seize the day, put very little trust in tomorrow”. In fact, scholars have agreed that what Horace was trying to say was don’t ignore tomorrow, but do all you can today to make sure tomorrow is the best it can be.

I seriously try to adopt this saying every day into my life.

I seize every day for what it is and try to get done everything that I need to get done that day.

  1. Read “Desiderata” by Max Ehrmann

Start 2019 with a positive bang and become familiar with one of the most beautiful poems ever written about how to conduct yourself in life. Written in 1927 by a then unknow poet, it contains some of the wisest words on how you should live your life. It starts with the classic of:

Go placidly amid the noise and haste and remember what peace there may be in silence……”

  1. Set Goals

Personal Mission Statement & Vision BoardAs the late Jim Rohn said:

“Goals, there is no telling what you can do when you get inspired by them. There is no telling what you can do when you believe in them. And there is no telling what will happen when you act upon them.”

Make sure you set yourself some!
