Yes you read that correctly, VAGINA STEAMING.
Probably not a post for the men. But please do share with the ladies in your life………
So, Vagina Steam.
Never heard of it? Well neither had I until I met You Need A Vicky for a podcast interview a few months ago. So full credit to her.
Whilst chatting off mic, I told her about my fertility journey and she asked me if I’d heard of something called a V Steam?
Of course I giggled and then leant forward with urgency to ask her exactly what it is?
Also, known as Yoni Steam (yoni is sandskrit for “origin of life”, vagina or womb,) apparently it’s big in Los Angeles and is used to help treat various conditions such as: infertility, menstrual cramps, endometriosis, PCOS, irregular periods, early menopause, uterine problems, episiotomy, cysts, yeast infections and stress.
Well, as you all know, I’m into my natural remedies, so as soon as I got home I googled the bleep out of Vagina Steaming and V Steam!
Well, the roots of Vagina Steaming appear conflicted, some say Korea, some say China others believe it’s Greek, but it’s something that many cultures have performed, or something similar for years and years.
A Vaginal Steam, is as the name suggests, where steam is blown into your vagina. Well not exactly blown thank god, but allowed to rise into your vagina. Steamy water is infused with herbs and by sitting on a special V Steam contraption thingy, steam pleasantly rises into your patients vagina.
Treatments last approximately 45 minutes.
Now I’m a guinea pig for anything natural and anything to do with getting me successfully pregnant, so I took it on myself to give this a whirl.
Yes, I did a “Do It Yourself Vagina Steam” those are five words I never thought I would say.
My husband looked at me and blew out his cheeks when I said I was doing this.
For those of you who know my husband you know that this means “this is not going to end well”.
For those of you who know me well, he was right to be concerned because:
- I’m the clumsiest person I know.
- If anything is going to happen to anyone, it’s going to happen to me.
So a “Do It Yourself Vagina Steam” was therefore an obvious concern for my husband.
However, I was determined to proceed and spent a number of weeks investigating it.
Western medicine rebukes the claims that a V Steam has any benefits, in fact an article by Dr Ann Robinson in the Guardian in 2015 claimed that contrary to the claims that a V Steam can deliver various benefits, it can in fact cause harm: unnatural heat rise in the vagina can cause unwanted bacteria and yeasts, itching, vaginal dryness and other things.
But still I was intrigued.
So I did it.
There are no approved Vagina Steam salons in the UK (that I could find and may be for a reason???) and quite honestly I wouldn’t want to pay the equivalent of $75 for the privilege anyway SOOO I did a DIY at home for a grand total of approximately £20 for the herbs which will last me for at least 10 sessions.
I did three V Steams and afterwards I knew something good had happened.
- No PMT. Honestly. Not there.
- My period was healthier. Won’t go into the gory details here, but all I will say is that my period was different.
- My period lasted longer.
- Minimal tummy pains.
- It was super relaxing.
I PROMISE you, I’m not easily duped by holistic treatments. Yes I’m an avid fan of them, but for me, many haven’t worked.
But, this definitely did something.
Now, I’m not naive as to think it will help me get pregnant or can reverse early menopause bla bla bla.
Maybe it can, who knows?
But I say things as I find and last month for me, my period was DEFO “healthier”.
So, take from this what you will.
So, am I recommending it?
Big fat YES.
Obviously do your own research, but it may be worth you giving it a try?
There are certain types of people who should definitely not do it (if you’re on your period. It also can’t be done if you’re pregnant, have a IUD, internal infection or a fever etc) but apart from that, go for it.
If you would like the exact details of the herbs I used, where I got them from (I created my own blend) and how I did the steam for free at home, then please e-mail me on firstname.lastname@example.org for my V Steam fact sheet. Confidence obviously guaranteed.
