NOW represents the PERFECT time for you to tackle the work you’ve been avoiding and supercharge your productivity by a million %.

I can tell you how.

Basically, increasing focus and beating procrastination = PRODUCTIVITY

Productivity is a function of:

  1. Mind Set
  2. Energy
  3. Motivation
  4. Efficiency

If you have the above four boxes ticked, then nothing will stop you.

You generally find that successful people have productivity down to a fine art by being almost “machine like” in their approach to how they spend their time.

I work closely with my career coaching clients on all the above, but for this blog post I thought I would provide you with three simpler steps to tackle procrastination and supercharge your work productivity immediately.

Here we go:

Step 1 – Routine

My advice to you is to plan your days, particularly weekdays, into pre-determined chunks of time in which you do certain things. This will ensure you have laser focus and will achieve stuff. For example, gym 6 am to 7 am, MIT (see below) 9 am to 11.30 am. E-mail catch up 11.30 am to 12.30.

Sounds too rigid?

It may seem that way at the beginning but after 30 days of keeping to this new routine it will become second nature.

Step 2 – Beat Procrastination

Often procrastination occurs when you don’t know how to do something.

So, my advice is to break whatever it is down into baby steps, even micro baby steps.

Literally write out every step in the chain to getting something done from the beginning to the end (some people like to work backwards from the end product to the beginning).

Still stuck?

Don’t fret, ask a trusted colleague to help you or even better find an expert pay them to help you.

Don’t let not knowing how to do something stop you.

Step 3 – Most Important Task (MIT)

Want to know one of the secrets as to how the most successful people get ahead?

They have laser focus on the most important “project or task” that has to be done and don’t get distracted until that task is done.

If there is one way to instantly boost focus and stop procrastination then this is it.

It doesn’t matter how long your To Do List is, identify the one task that that has to be done that day or that week. Then do it. First thing.

Don’t look at your emails, answer phones or gossip with your colleagues. Don’t get distracted by anything or anyone else. Focus on that one task until it’s done.

It may take 10 minutes, 1 hour or all week, doesn’t matter.

Just focus on that.

Most people are more alert and productive first thing in the morning, hence this is the best time to get the MIT done.

How to identify the MIT?

It’s normally the task that is going to earn you superstar status in your company (earns or saves the company money) OR the task that fills you with dread and you’ve been putting off.

So, there you have it, three really simple yet effective steps you can take right now to improve your productivity.

I hope this helped you.
